1. What’s Going On With Ads and “Genetics”?

First American Eagle, now Dunkin’. Both brands are facing backlash after recent campaigns referenced genetics, sparking conversations about race, beauty standards, and advertising tone.

American Eagle’s ad featured Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney, with lines referencing inherited traits like hair and eye color. Critics called it a subtle nod to eugenics, while others saw it as a reach. Days later, Dunkin’ released a spot starring “The Summer I Turned Pretty” actor Gavin Casalegno, joking that his golden tan is “genetics” prompting similar concerns.

Are brands leaning too hard into physical traits? Or are viewers reading too much into it?

Neither company has commented publicly, but social media has taken notice. One TikTok comment summed up the sentiment: “What’s up with ads and the word genetics rn?”

What do you think is this just awkward timing, or a larger reflection of advertising missteps?

2. Astronomer Flips the script by Hiring Gwyneth Paltrow

As you probably heard, Astronomer’s CEO got caught up in a viral cheating scandal at a Coldplay concert. Instead of ignoring the buzz, Astronomer flipped the script by hiring Gwyneth Paltrow, yes Chris Martin’s ex, as a “temporary spokesperson.”

This clever move didn’t try to hide the drama. It turned attention back to the company with humor and style, showing how to own a viral moment rather than run from it.

Was it a PR stunt? Maybe. But it worked.

In a world where brands often stumble in viral crises, Astronomer’s playful, smart response might be a blueprint for turning unexpected attention into a win. If this happened to your company what would you prescribe?

Case in point Trisha and her husband just welcomed their son Aquaman Moses Paytas-Hacmon. Yes Aquaman is his real legal name not a nickname. The name fits their vibe but it’s already stirring up a lot of online drama. Some people have even called it “child abuse.”

Their daughters Malibu Barbie and Elvis also have unique names that caught attention.

Even filmmaker James Gunn commented that he hopes the kid doesn’t get bullied because of the name.

Baby name expert Emily Kim says these bold celebrity baby names are shaping a trend that might influence regular parents too.

So what do you think Are these unique names a fun splash of creativity or a little too wild?
